Well I almost nailed it. I ordered everything and misjudged the length of the tie rods, got 4" I should have gotten 3.5 as it is now the rods bottm out in the lugs, but tighten the heads enough but not really enough to gig with. the kelly mic system looks cool and should please the sound men. with the help of some tile I had laying around, under the floor tom legs they support the drum fine. If I can get the right rods, I may weight to stain the hoops till after my gig. what color do you think? I was thinking more natural to complient the wmp. the heads eq3 and 4 sound pretty good but its hard to tell since I can't tighten the heads properly. any tips / tricks to make this drum sound great? should I put felt in between the res head? since the floor tom had a muffler, its near the batter head, I assume I should not let it touch the head correct? ALL feedback welcome, I hope I can get this drum to sound like a bass drum with when I get the right rods, so far what do you think? suggestions? tips?

Looks very cool man.
BTW, Drumfactory sells just the L shaped spurs that would fit into your tom tom leg mounts, thus eliminating using your legs for spurs.
Slip the new spurs into your existing tom leg brackets.
The spurs "gull wing" out to meet the floor and adjust the height of the front hoop.
IMPORTANT!
Before ordering spurs,
FIRST check the diameter of your tom legs to make sure the new spurs fit into the hole diameter on the bracket.
The new spurs should be the same diameter as your existing legs.
I bought some of those spurs and they were too big for certain brackets.
Should be an awesome 20 Dude.
Thanks to Mr. Jerry Jenkins
Thanks I would also think guitar center or sam ash would have them, since I need to get longer rods I'll check that out while there also

Paint the hoops black and put WMP inlays in the middle of them.
VERY NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the good thing is you didn't alter the drum ! Satin or highgloss clear on the natural hoops & if your floor tom legs are 3/8 get some angled spurs or go with the DW clamp on for 34 bucks @ sweetwater

A Dremel tool with heavy duty cutter blades, a pair of vise grips, a felt tip marker, and a 12-24" hex die, will enable you to cut off the excess length from the tension rods and correct any thread irregularities left after the process. Will take an hour or two but you won't have to purchase new tension rods.
Easiest thing to do to ...to accomadate.thé extra length of thé rods...is to get a bunch of plastic rod washers (use them as spacers)...almost like buying a really small narrow diameter piece of plastic conduit and cut yr own size...acts like a spacer...and thé plastic won't harm thé chrome, etc.
I did this on a yamaha bassdrum 3 mths back...
It allowed me to tighten thé skin properly ...
• Thé rods were to long for thé bassdrum plastic lugs..!
This will solve yr problem short term or long term..
Also regarding thé spurs...
Get a proper flrtom converter kit...i have a Dan mar & its awesome..!
It raises thé whole drum and gives you a small plate lip to attach yr pedal.
For thé hoops...since theres no inlay groove...I would lightstain and clearcoat...
I have it with a set of Silver glitter glass Rogers....it looks classy...
But when it comes to woodwork....chat with JCabs here....
He has an eye for this stuff...

I'm trying to figure out the right kind of spacers you refer to, you talking a hardware store type? any pic of what I need to look for will help.
I don't want to raise the drum, if I did I would have left the chrome hoops on. this is not a 16 or 18 drum its a 20, so the size is large enough to stand on its own.

You can remove length, not add. Put it between two blocks of wood in a vice with what you want removed sticking out past the wood. Spray a hacksaw blade with lube and cut it off. Use a knife stone to de-burr it and I see no reason it shouldn`t work just fine.
What`s that thing inside do ?

Awesome job. Looks great! I would make up spurs from hardware stock. Bend them the way it suits you and the drum. I would buy proper size tension rods. Finally, I would cover the hoops with WMP wrap similar to how they do hoops on the new kits now. I agree that you don't need to raise the drum height any. I use Remo Powerstroke 3 coated or smooth white heads on my 20" bass drums. I get lots of good comments on how they sound. Again, very good job that you did!
