Picked up an old set of Ludwigs. What do I have? Last viewed: 4 days ago

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum. I just picked up this old Ludwig set. All serial numbers match and it looks to be made in 79. Sizes are 20" bass, 12, 13 rack tom, and 16" floor tom. It also came with the matching high hat stand, snare stand, and cymbal stand. They're filthy, need a good cleaning and missing hoops, rods, and reso heads but I only paid $160 for everything. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes. It was on Craigslist for about an hour when I emailed. They said it was still available so I went and bought it.

Nice find. You did well! The pic that shows interior of a ride tom looks like it has re-rings. If so, that's a 3 ply drum. I would have expected to see 6 ply with no re-rings. And you're sure the bass is a 20 and not a 22? The wrap is called Butcher Block Cortex. Maybe a Hollywood kit or a Big beat kit. I see a swivel feet atlas hi hat stand. They were shown in the '76 catalog.

I'm going to guess 75-76 because of the pointy badges and re-enforcement rings. Welcome to the world of collecting. It can be addictive.

I'm not sure about the 20" bass. I haven't measured it yet. I'll do that today.

You are right. It's a 22" bass
