Picked up a Ruether Drum Kit

From Drummerjohn333

This kit has alot of character! I see you have a CX-500 Ride, the vinty 70s snare (a bit earlier than the rest of the kit) Stencil CB700 crash on the right (I believe Pearl made this as well), Stencil kit itself.....just alot of cool gear! The kit itself sure looks great compared to when you brought it home. You clean it up and complete it with heads/rims top and bottom, give her some flair (cymbals) and it looks great!

Thanks! I just got some Pearl Wild 500 hats to add to this setup....so all drums and cymbals are made by Pearl :)

DrummerJohn pretty much pointed out everything that I wanted to; your kit looks like Christmas morning 1979!

I thought it was gorgeous from the front and sides, but then the aerial shot put it into the next level. You are a man of rare taste. CB700 cymbals! Some of the CB700-branded cymbals are said to have been pretty okay.

The intact logo bass drum head alone is worth half what you paid for the whole set!

5 years ago, a neighbor of mine was getting ready to dumpster the remains of a CB700/Maxwin/Reuther/Pearl kit of similar vintage to yours but nowhere near the condition and with more parts missing. It was the "Monaco" (I think) outfit with the 13" and 14" mounted tom toms but missing its floor tom.

I retrieved it thinking I would fix it up and give it away, but destiny had other plans. That was my first drum kit. I fixed it up, yes. Giving it away never happened. I got a CB700 floor tom from a hippie house in Berkeley, wrapped all the drums in sparkle barstool vinyl, updated the stripped tom mount to the later Pearl type, fixed the bearing edges, made the things sing. I play a Slingerland kit now, but I still have that rescued Pearl stencil kit for playing out.

Very cool backstory/info!

I was very surprised to find this kit in a "junk" shop. There are a couple scratches and one small spot on the kick where the wrap is bulging but overall it is in really nice condition. Regarding the CB 700 cymbal...I got a CX-500 ride off an online site for $30 shipped :) I really liked how it sounded so I searched for other MIJ pearl cymbals and found out that some of the CB 700 cymbals were made by Pearl...that's how I ended up with that cymbal. Only thing about the kit that disappointed me was that they put a hole in the original head, but I did what I could by putting a port on it.

I would love to see a pic of your kit!
