Picked This Little Guy Up Today

Loading...

Can you guys help me with which stencil brand this might be? No badge. Just has an "S" or a "5" in pink crayon on the inside. The shell looks to be 5 or 6 ply with maple or birch re-rings. The reinforcement hoops are super nice and the edges are surprisingly pretty nicely done.

The things that made me want to pick the thing up for the lousy 18 bucks I got it for was the strainer and the hoops not to mention the wrap is in nice shape (just needs a cleaning and polishing). The strainer works perfectly and looks awesome. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory style or something. The lugs look great and the hoops are super heavy and TALL like early Rogers hoops, but look like stick-saver copies.

Another question though: Whats up with that muffler? Is that original?

Pretty cool drum for under 20 bucks. It just needs to have about an inch of grime cleaned off of it all around!

Did a quick take apart and clean job on the little guy this afternoon. Its not perfect, but I am not sure I care that much.

If anyone has a for sure stencil brand on something like this I would be happy to hear about it!

Thanks,

Adam

That is such a ridiculously cool snare! The wrap...the hardware...the very cool strainer. Unreal. Nice job picking that one up.

Very cool! It is a Pearl, and a very nice copy of the legendary Dynasonic. Way cool. I have a stck of those thin wood shelled Pearls and they all have a very different, yet oddly the same tonal quality. It should be very fat and woody sounding. As for the specific "brand", it doesn't much matter, but that is a gem.

And just for the record, that shell isn't maple, it's luan. Not sure what the re-rings are.

Nice snare!

How's it sound?

I never said the shell was maple. It is obviously luan...as are most of these drums.

The rings are nice. I am not sure what they are made of. They dont seem quite hard enough to be maple or birch. Might be beech? Anyone know what they used for rings on these cheap suckers but the edges are actually done pretty nicely compared to a lot of these drums I have seen.

It sounds pretty decent for having a couple of stretched out wires and no snare beds!

Sorry, I misread that as "5 or 6 ply maple" - DOH!!!

Wait a minute ....Hmmmm ... I've seen that characteristic snare strainer before ... I KNOW there was a company, that had been doing hardware besides the common line ... wasn't it ... Crown ?! ... Searching for 'Crown' here ...
