I’ve seen the issue on both drums. Just a bad lug design. Both ends are being pulled on and it begins to twist.
You could always install single offset lugs.

Well, with the Ludwig Downbeat, it was clearly an issue with the "push/pull" orientation of the lug screws, on the thin shell...the holes became oval in no time.But with the Tama, I have no idea other than to guess it was a casting miscalculation. If this angle is consistent on all the lugs, then it would appear that someone's abacus wasn't calibrated.
O-Lugs educated explanation makes the most sense to me!! The abacus only needed to be off by one bead!!

Yes, I tend to agree with O-lugs explanation. The lugs fit tightly, the holes are perfect. The t-rods fit fine and the drum has been played for nearly twenty-five years with no issues. It sounds great! I am now wondering how this slight deviation was not detected at the factory! Oops! sorry, guys. I'll just drop it. Thanks everyone for weighing in!
