Photo of Me and Buddy Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Finally got a scanner, and this is the first photo I scanned!

Taken in approx.`83, at a performance in Gilford NH.

My then girlfriends father was/is a drummer, and he brought me to the show.

I waited outside the bus after the show, and Buddy was nice enough invite us on the bus to sign an autograph and have a few photos taken.

The blonde did not seem as pleased to welcome anyone on the bus.

I am well aware that I look like I might have just smoked with Buddy. Maybe we did, maybe we didn't. We of course did not, but it depends who I tell the story to.

That's a great photo. I'm sure that's a night you'll remember for the rest of your life. Maybe not the part after you entered the bus though!:D

Doesn`t matter what happened on the bus, only you know for sure, but what is really important is the photo and not many people have had that opportunity.Great pic and one that you`ll always remember including what happened on the bus.The blond...well life is full of disappoitments.

Very cool. I saw the band several times, but never had the opportunity to get the photo even though we sat close enough to him at Lenny's on the Pike to feel the breeze from his stick movements. Congrats on not only having the photo, but of having retained it all these years.

For those interested in places he played in the northeast:

Lenny's on the Pike - original building in Peobody, MA burned to the ground in late 60's. I'm going to guess I saw him there in 67 or 68.

Lenny's on the Pike - Held at the Holiday Inn about 5 miles south on Rte 1 north and intersection of 128 in Peobody, MA. Again, will guess I saw him there in 72 or 73.

Canoby Lake Park - Salem, NH a bit later in the 70's (I think).

They must have really burned up the buses in those days.

Dan!

Oh... but there are so many more too! Living in CT., I saw BR LIVE 5 times between 1973 and 1978, although I would have KILLED to have seen him in 1967/68! I was but 12 at the time though, so... Anyway, I caught him at the Paramount in Springfield, MA in 1973, and that was the night night I met with him "one on one" in his dressing room! What a story that is too I might add.. and .. it didn't go so well at first, but then Buddy softened and we had a nice meet/chat. Didn't leave without his autograph of course! He was also playing the Fibes SFT 690/COF with his Slingerland's that night, and I remember that snare drum well! It got out over the band like nothing I had ever heard prior. Course, back in 1973, and being just 18 years old, I wasn't yet familiar with Fibes, but I knew that snare drum was something special. It wasn't long after that I owned one!, and still have it in the BR snare drum collection, but already I digress. Then...

He also played in Winsted.. ( I took an entire roll of pics from that concert, and still have them ) .. then "La Rennaissance" in East Windsor, then Lake Compounce in Bristol too! Yeah, he and the band got around for sure! Those were the best of times, as so many of the GREATS were still around and playing. To have seen BR, and that many times, was priceless! Matt!... I meant to add: GREAT pic of you and Buddy!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

You guys that got that close did well, especially with pictures. I'm not sure I ever thought about trying.

I eventually got Louie Bellson's autograph. Pervertedly enough, I got in my '67/68 Rogers catalog and he signed over the Louie Bellson Twin Base page! How ridiculous was that??? I still have it, but I probably should have been a bit more concerned to have it on the night's program or something like that.

Some of those candid shots like the one Matt M started this string with might be great info to provide to any historian tracking Buddy's life. His daughter might find it interesting to see all the shots that weren't with other stars, but rather the every day people for whom he would knock himself and his guys out to give a good show.

Very cool pic Matt thanks. A great BR keepsake to have. Cool story too your lucky to have a picture!

I only saw Buddy once in Asbury Park NJ. One of the clubs on the boardwalk. My Dad had to tip the doorman to let me in as I was only 16 at the time. I had to sit at the bar where the bartender could keep a eye on me.... funny. But cool they let me in and had a good view of Buddy and the band. Dad and I had a great time though!

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

All great stories! While I don't have any pictures of me and Buddy, I am very happy that I got up the nerve to ask Buddy to autograph a dollar bill I had in my wallet. I caught Buddy's band at Disneyland in the late 70's. Got up the nerve to approach him after one of his sets. Buddy was more than happy to oblige! Thanks Buddy...I remember this well!
