Phone number required from eBay seller?

I went to purchase an item from Music123 on eBay with a BIN option.

When I got to the payment page, a message appeared in red that I must update my shipping information to include my telephone number in order to receive shipment of the item?

I've never had such a request.

I didn't comply and sent a question to the seller.

Anyone familiar with this?

A new one on me......

Ever heard of Big Brother? Use a cell or work, it's just so they can call you if there's an issue. Anyway, if you're on Facebook, they have all your info anyway, including your cell number if you use your mobile to update.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

I just bought a drum part on eBay two days ago - won the auction - and the seller asked for my phone # as it might be needed for the Customs form to ship it to Canada. I sent it to him.

I just bought from music123 the other day. Some sellers ask for it. I think its to contact you for any issues. I bought some ball joints, tie rods and a whole bunch of front end parts for my silverado and a few had issues and when i messaged them they called me to work it out. Not always a bad thing. I changed the number to my google voice number tho ;) see them get at me now.

Basically I wouldn't be worried at them having this. Go ahead and buy, they seem like a very reasonably priced ebayer to me.

Kev, It's not just ebay... I can't buy a screw or a roll of tape at Sears or Lowes without being asked for my phone number at the counter.

I don't get it either. I never give out my number to retailers.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Well it's not in the listing that they need one.

I didn't like getting blindsided at checkout for the number, or to be asked to add it to my shipping address.

My number is in my profile which is available to sellers if they care to look.

I asked them to cancel my order.

Ya - that seems strange. The seller - last week on ebay - asked me for it after the auction as well. I was communicating with him back and forth (Messages) and it seemed okay. The auction was for the USA only and I emailed him and persuaded him to let me bid. It's only after I won the auction that he asked me to send it to him just in case he needed to put it on the Customs declaration.......fair enough, in my situation. Yours Kevin may be a different situation.
