pearls of steel...wisdom needed.

Loading...

I just got a 5.5" steel shell of eBay, with only the lugs, for £0.99. wasn't expecting much and assumed it was newish..The chrome is amazing and in 2 hours, with stuff from the "spares box" has put together a very respectable looking snare..Didn't have a proper hazy for the bottom so don't know yet how it sounds...

There is a question ! After searching the net for ages I thought it might have been a Pearl Worls Series. That led to to the "Pearl World Series thread to end all threads" where on page two 2 see practically the same drum. and info would appear to date it to mid 80's

However there is no mention anywhere of a 5.5 x 14, 6 lug version so I'm wondering if anyone can offer any info...tah,.Roger

Six lug drums are generally student or lower end models, so there may not be a lot of info floating around.

Hi Rogerj!

My educated guess tells me what you have a MIT (Made In Taiwan) shell. I'm not aware of any 6-lug steel shells from Pearl. Also, I've not seen any with the double beads around the shell. Your shell is probably one of dozens of "no name" offerings. All that matters is if you are happy with the drum!

Pearl did manufacture in Taiwan, so it is possible it is pearl made, but as Mark pointed out, it most likely did NOT have a Pearl badge on it. CB-700 was one of several badges they used for entry level kits and drums... Often these "badges" were just stickers, and they didn't last long in the hands of aspiring young drummers...
