why cos or cob snares, i would have thought these kits would have had matching wood snare, i have all three types of snares, will put them through there paces.

From alot2008

tried th knock this guy down from $399, but it nagged me because of the sizes, so i paid $325, came with an old school stool and some other bits and pieces, but why in earth do kits turn up without snares,(i think i know why) would this guy have had a 13'' snare? will post some pics, just wrestling with resizing at the moment, but i any one has a snare?

The good news is the original COS snare is, #1 easy to come by for relatively cheap, and # 2 a smoking beast. This is one of the best sounding COS snares out there. The shells will be best if left alone on this kit. I would smooth the edges and and put some Aquarian Z-100's all around and an Evans EQ-1 on the batter of the bass. One strange thing I do with these old MIJ kits is the reso on the bass. I re-use the old super thin heads and actually spray paint them with a heavy paint like RustOleum. I spray them heavily and they respond like calf. No joke, try it, all it will cost is $3.00. If you don't like the response then you lost 3 bucks. I would not lacquer this kit unless they are 3 ply. Some of those early Pearl basses and floor toms have a thin maple or poplar ply on the interior and sound really nice.

Just for your information, the matching snare will have the 'gold bar' style lugs. And John's right, they aren't too hard to come by.

The set looks great! That cymbal must sound like hell, though!

your right the cymbal and hats look and sound like hell, but i think they have a sort of urban mining appeal (stuff you find in the rubbish) but they are part of the original kit, so for display i will hang on to them, might even give them a bit of a play now and then, lol.
