Pearl Tiger Eye Kit

Loading...

Hi vintage drum lovers! These are not for sale, I'm just after some information and opinions on these drums. ...

Earlier today i came across this kit and jumped on it as i didn't want to miss out on getting it. I have little knowledge of vintage drums, but from what i can tell it's a 1960's Tiger Eye kit in the following sizes:

14x5, 13x9, 16x15?, and 22x14. Sizes aren't exact but close. ..is this due to imperial vs metric systems?

It's in very good condition. A little dusty, but otherwise great - nice and shiny chrome, very few marks in the wrap.

Came with what appears to be period correct hardware:

HH, Snare, cymbal stands and kick pedal.

The snare drum had a gold script logo but the other three have period correct oval badge. Flat steel throw off arm.

The 13" has rings but the snare does not. I'm assuming the kick and floor do have them (haven't taken them apart yet to see).

Both toms and snare appear to have the stick saver hoops.

The kit came with a set of Super Zyn hats, an unlabeled 18" and a 20" riveted Zildjian.

Thrown in were the obligatory box of broken sticks and brushes....

As this is my first vintage kit, my questions are:

Is this a good choice for a vintage kit?

Is it a problem that the snare has a different badge to the rest of the drums?

I paid $550AUD for everything. How did i do? Bargain? Ripped off?

Any other info on these drums would be fantastic.

I can't seem to load my photos from here, so until i figure out how to do it, here is a link to my post to a Facebook group regarding this kit...

Looking forward to seeing what you have. Can't log into Facebook. As to photos, check your size.If you reduce the size, they will probably load up OK. Web large usually works if you are in MS Office photo software.

I was directed here from the facebook group i linked earlier, saying there were lots of people here that could give me information regarding it....Kenwood was mentioned specifically..

Any info regarding these kits would be fantastic 😊

I'm newer here so the others have more experience. Listen to them first. My opinion would be:

1. Awesome looking kit in a desirable wrap. (Even though some collectors consider MIJ to be firewood. Snobs.)

2. Both badges were used in the 60s. It is possible it came like that.

3. ?$? value?

The Super Zyns were the higher quality cymbals coming out of the Premier factory....

Hello Nathan,

Those drums look to be in really nice shape

congrats on finding them

I was not 100% sure of the current conversion rate

but by my quick inquiry you paid 413.01 in U.S. dollars for the drums and other goodies

I would say you did just fine

while you did not exactly steal them, You paid a fair price for a kit in a very desirable finish that looks to be very complete and without many problems

and as a bonus for that fair price paid you got some nice original hardware and cymbals

The script logo snare while not original to the other shells

is no problem as I see it ..The tiger eye wrap seems a good match

not to mention a bird in hand being worth two in the bush

You can always keep an eye peeled for the exact matching snare

I would bet at some point along the way that a previous owner of these drums was delighted to find the one you have to round out the kit

and if the day comes where you find the correct snare

That script logo snare will not be hard to sell

I was wondering how many lugs per side you have on the floor tom?

The reason I ask is I have a tiger eye floor tom with the same pearl badge and mine has only seven lugs per side
