Pearl session select MIT

Loading...

On the way home from the drum show I stopped at a guys house and traded my Pearl DX pro kit for this Pearl Prestige Session Select. I bought the DX last summer from the same guy, took it home and removed the wrap and used a blue dye and lacquer for the re-finish. It was a 12,13,16,22 shell pack.

The Session Select kit is a 10,12,14,16 and a 17x22 virgin base drum. I also gave him 100 bucks. I purchased the DX kit from him for 225.00 last summer so now 325.00 total investment. My question is this, the drums are MIT, and from my research they are supposed to be a pro line from Pearl. I thought most anything MIT was low quality. Did Pearl produce good quality drums in Taiwan? Also, I plan on refinishing these but before I do, are they anything special? should I not refinish? They are a lacquer finish now but scuffed up. Thanks!

JC

Oh well, I guess it doesnt really matter. The drums sound good to me so who cares where they were made.

Several of Pearl's professional lines are made in Taiwan. There are also other brands of professional drums made there. (Pork Pie, Mapex, etc.)

That's the main thing. I worked at a big music store several years ago and we carried Pearl. I saw a lot of Sessions kits come through and every one of them sounded good to me.

I'm sure your kit will be a thing of beauty when you're done refinishing it. Please post pics. :)

I asked because I had a CB700 kit once that was MIT and the lugs broke if you tighten the screws just a little too hard. So since then I have not purchased any mit drums. Just wanted to hear someone say that some of the drums from Tiawan were good. Thank you!

Yeah, they're good quality. My first new kit was Mapex Mars series, which I believe was MIT. It was a great kit, as far as entry-level kits go. Sessions kits have always been good kits, as far as I know. I believe you got a winner.
