Pearl "Mod Badge" phenolic Presidents? Anyone have the scoop on these?

Well VDF, don't feel bad. The folks at PDF don't know anything about these either. I guess I win, lol.

Floyd, that is the hottest logo drum head I've ever seen.

I picked up a phenolic President 10-lug bass drum a while back from a local recycling store.

Most information I could get about it from the folks at PDF was that Pearl "never" made Presidents in phenolic and that someone must have put the badge on mine as a joke or fraud.

Mine had the regular President badge on the top. I say "had" because the drum had been stored outside and I figured it was best to get the wrap off before the trapped moisture damaged the shell.

I put it back together and played it for a while but now I'm not sure what to do with it. Cool drum. What else could have survived sitting in someone's back yard for years?

I know what you mean. I had googled a bunch before posting and read some pretty bogus answers there. Same stuff on my thread, must be a fake if it's not in these catalogs... yeah right.

They are scarce though I reckon. So far (besides mine) I've found pics online of 2 snares and one kit with these badges.

They were made and sold in Japan only....hence the rarety. They are very coveted in Japan. I tried to work a deal with the guy Montana before you bought them.

Anyhew, I had a 13x9 tom with the mod Pearl badge (also blue sparkle), sold it to a guy here in SF, CA.

I currently have set of blue sparkle Pearl Valencias that have the same finish (blue flakes set in plastic resin) and I dig it....it has surface texture.

Let me know if you ever need to part ways with the drums....I have two other Pearl President sets to trade you or sell you.

Actually, I got a total of 3 sets of Pearl Presidents....1. is a set of blue agate wrap, 20x14, 12x8, 13x9 and 16x16....2. is a set of red agate wrap, 20x14, 13x9, 16x16, 13x5 snare (made from a 13x9 tom)......3. is a set of gold strata pearl wrap (I still believe this wrap is a better "tiger eye" than the "root beer" pearl that others and Pearl call the Tiger Eye, IMO), 12x8, 13x9, 20x14, 14x5 snare.

The blue sparkle kit you bought would have been my 4th, but the dude in MT wouldn't go for my offer.

Anyhow, the issue of the badges.....check with Revival Drums in Portland, they sold a complete set like yours cept it was tiger eye pearl wrap with the mod badge, about a year or so ago. That kit sold for tooooo much....but damn it was pretty.

I also have a couple of the phenolic shelled 14x5 snares, one was rewrapped in blue sparkle and the other is waiting (bare phenolic shell) to be rewrapped.

The blue agate kit I have was bought from someone in NY, and they were damaged during shipment. The shells of the kick, floor tom and 13 tom are cracked and I need to try and brace them to fix....any input of what type of epoxy or other to use would be helpful and appreciated.

Anyhew, look out tempus drums, I am on the hunt fer ya!
