Pearl "jupiter" model ID help

Loading...

I just got this Pearl snare and am a little confused about which model it is. It's technically not a Jupiter model as it doesn't have the parallel strainer. The other model I see in a 70's Pearl catalogue 4214D, with the gladstone style strainer, doesn't seem to have snare bridge (drop gates bolted to shell) . The pics aren't great in the catalogue though. Thoughts? Thanks!

Btw, though my pics aren't great at this late hour, she is incredibly clean! The photos were taken before any wipe down!

I'm going into the studio in a weeks time and don't want to bring too many snares. I have a 13 x 3 hammered bronze Ludwig and a 5.5" COB Dyna. This one should fill in the deep spot nicely along with a PJL 14 x 6.5 maple snare (just in case they really want to hear wood..). Can't wait for morning now!!!

Okay I have it. It's a COB B-714D from the 1984 catalogue. I still can't play it until my neighbours go to work in 8 or 9 hours DOH

Nice looking snare. Those pics are a bit funky.. is that a 6.5"? I have a plain (non-Jupiter) COB from the early 70s and love it. Tell us how it sounds when you get a chance....

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

Yup, 6.5" deep and it sounds fantastic! Whether I tune it low, medium or high it just wants to sound great. It weighs in at around 11 pounds and you can tell when you smack a rimshot! It has a nice controlled ring from the shell played open and a nice dry smack with a liberal amount of tone control. It started becoming apparent to me today that this snare is like the opposite of a "one trick pony". I kept on trying different tuning recipes and they kept on working. We should be filming and taping on Saturday's gig so I'll try and post a link to a video.
