Pearl "Japan Rising Sun Flag" set

Loading...

Hey, anybody seen one of these before? Was at a HS football game in the Wichita (Ks) area, and these were being used. I know the pic's not the best (off my son's cell phone), but that's all I have (at this time).

Anybody with any info please share!

Hi

I saw one of those kits some time back, years ago. Late 80's maybe? Early 90's? I don't remember. Heck it could have been last weekend! :)

I don't really even remember where it was. It seems that maybe it was in a club in the Bay Area...

The funny thing was that the bass player had the Stars & Stripes on his guitar. I do remember that much, maybe...

As much as I am an American, those are cool looking drumbs....and yes, that was intentional.

Redneck that I am...please don't beat me down, this is all in fun.

I think those are mid 80's export series Pearls. It was back when they were offering Zebra striping and other 80's style checkerboards and stuff like that.

Cool but possibly controversial wrap.I guess that one of the reasons why Pearl sells more drums thay anybody else.Export drums supposedly number in the millions.

That was the Japanese battle flag insignia during WW2.I'm as open minded as the next guy,but I'm thinking some WW2 vets might not think that is too cool.Any more than a Sonor set with swastika's on it.But it's 2011,and that was three generations ago.Symbolism can provoke some very strong emotions-iron crosses on biker emblems, confederate battle flags on jackets.Everything is all "watered down",vanilla pudding. If the last thing your grandfather saw before the Kamikaze plane hit the carrier was that flag.....not cute.

I wonder if the Japanese drummers feel the same when they see the American flag flying over Hiroshima?...I think this generation is fine with all that, but for those old enough to remember,it must be hell.
