Pearl President Giant Beat craigslist

Loading...

A Craigslist find. 12, 13, 16, 22, 14 snare. I'm damn broke but I ran across the state for these. They were advertised for $200. I didn't go for the shells, but it turns out they are phenolic and sound GREAT! I went for the set of Ludwig hardware that came with AND the cymbals. The hats are some scrappy little Paiste 13" 404S. Also included a 15ish crash (maybe a hat top, but pretty light) Zildjian and a 14" Paiste Rude. All of that would have been enough to make me happy for $200. However, there was also a white label 24" Paiste Giant Beat included. (Thanks for the offers, but it is not for sale!) Ooooooh that bell sounds godly. Yummy, yummy PIE!!!!

It looks like the shells must be from 2 different kits with different wraps and different mounting systems. The tom mount on the bass not only missing, but I'm thinking this is not for a two rack tom system. I'm guessing that this is a mixed set. Any advice or info from you experts here would be appreciated.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

WOW - that was not a score.

That was a score and a half!

I would recommend experimenting with the 404 HHs. Try each of them with a thicker 13 bottom (if you have one / another 13 laying around)

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Alot of studio musicians / pros were buying these up in the 70s (new) as they were the latest hottest sound. Yes, great quality sound I understand. I have never seen / heard any but have read some praises about them.

Evidently you ran into somebody just wanting to get rid of this stuff in a hurry or who had no clue as to their value. Sometimes they are not wanting alot of money - just some - and then want to get rid of their stuff to make space.

Proof again that, as rare as they are and harder to find, there still are deals out there to be discovered.

Great idea! Cool sound, though a bit thin. Thanks for the suggestion.

The guy who had them had only got a couple calls, and I'd bet he had no idea what they were. We are in a remote, sparsely populated state, too. I've gotta admit _I_ didn't really know what I was getting into. I'm not a collector by any measure, and I'm only a recent convert into the drumming world. (My philosophy: If you can't find a good drummer to play with maybe you should BECOME the drummer you want to play with.) Anyway, I had an idea the the Giant Beat would be worth a little if it was in ok condition, but couldn't tell from the pictures. It looked like an 18" from the pictures. I was also very unaware that Presidents are phenolic. I will say that the last kit I picked up is a 70's Pearl Fiberglass kit (still need a spur)and I think the phenolic kick sounds better.

Here is another pic of that cymbal. The original pics were from a little point and shoot that has a mind of its own. The beast is beautiful. It rides great on both the bow and on the bell and it crashes amazingly for a 24" slab of metal.

Really appreciate everybody on this forum. I've learned a ton and benefited by picking up a couple cool, nice sets. Thanks guys!

Good call, but i'm better with a tape measure than with a pair of drum sticks. he is a 24"... maybe a metric 24" (23 3/4?) , but a 24" none the less.
