Ok gents- the beauty of a free country is you can think what you will- go ahead and believe what you want- But for me- you gotta look at all the parts together along with the wrap and put it all together. First thing to know is Pearl used different badges on the same drums in the same year- it`s a mystery as to why. Even the lugs in the early 70s were a little varied- sometimes you see middle level luan drums with Pearl`s best diamond shaped lugs. Right around 72 they began to go to the rectangular lug that is the Rogers copy (lasted into the 1980s) So, lower end drums got the battleship lugs even in the 75 catalog while the higher end got the rectangular models. Valencias had the old style double lugs up until almost 1980.
The tom holder is the give away- it`s only Pearl and it`s set for a 5-piece kit- so can`t be anything but a Deluxe, a Downbeat or a Thunderking. The bass drum doesn`t have 10 lugs- so it`s not in the highest catagory- SuperDeluxe.
Pearl started with that particular tom holder in 1971 and it held until 1976 on
middle and lowerl level models. The wrap is basically a "psychedelic" and was phased out by 74/75 completely- by 75 all you could get in old style wraps was BMP and WMP, all the rest was solids and satins. Its a Deluxe somewhere between 71-73 so I said 72 - the lightweight bass drumlegs give it an earlier date - they got longer in 74 for this model. These are my thoughtsCoffee Break2
