Pearl killer free floating maple snare

i recently got this maple free floating monster that was with some other drums that i pcked up. I haven't seen this finish before, perhaps someone repainted the shell. There are 2 OBP strips and the badge is there. Any info on these beasts? I normally don't care so much about Pearl drums unless they are from the late 60's or 1970 but this one has a little something....

Keep fixing them up...

Custom job.

Nothing Pearl ever shipped stock.

Looks like they used 2 sets of lug posts screwed together to give the extra length.

My guess is the shell is an aftermarket and refinished with the label stuck on as an after thought.

Looks more like a marching snare.

Nothing like Yankee ingenuity.

I was wrong ,Pearl made a 14 inch deep snare.

That is a very rare snare.

The catalog shot looks like 14x8, not 14x14. I have a second gen maple pearl 14x8 FF, probably the most articulate snare I own.

Someone probably painted it black and glued the inlay strips on.

Is it just me, or do the "ears" of those die-cast hoops appear to be bent, especially in photos 2 & 3? That would take some either serious torque or abuse!

You may want to swap out the hoops, and make sure the drum is in round. It almost looks like the drum may have been dropped somewhere along the line.

Looks like the batter hoop is either over tightened or warped.

Wrong snares on the drum too.

It will sound much better with the extended snares made for that drum by Pearl.
