Hey guys, dig this wrap? I was so glad to get these drums! Bought the BD and 2 toms on eBay about 6 years ago. Went into storage shortly after their arrival. I had extensive travel for my work over the last 5 years and only recently got this set out of storage. I gave it the VDF once over and pics are posted here for you to enjoy.
I've been wanting to connect with the Pearl experts on here for a while. What can you tell me? From the awesome VDF catalog archive, seems like a '72 FS-1 in wood fiberglass with blue oyster pearl or swirl wrap. 12, 16, 22. I'm only guessing a 13 inch rack tom and an 18 inch FT are missing....? The hardware is all original Pearl "on loan" from my other Pearl set. The Rogers Swivo-matic pedal is my gigging pedal, but I do have the original Pearl pedal in storage.
Yes, that is my prized 5 1/2 by 14 COB 10 lug Jupiter snare with original Pearl heads. (The snare is from my WMP Pearl FS-1 Fiberglass kit that I will introduce to you guys in the future when I pull that set from their cases). I've been playing that snare with those heads since November of 1975 when I first got my WMP set.
Since the wrap is "busy," fortunately it masks quite a bit of "rippling" in the wrap that is particularly noticeable on the bass drum. You VDF guys mention this is typical of Pearl wraps from this period. After some research and advice from guys on this forum, I simply opted to polish the wrap and let as is. The toms have only minor wrap lifting/bunching most noticeable at the lugs. The other nice thing is that the chromes, while having some pitting as expected for the age of the drums, cleaned up very nicely.
Can you guys detect any mods, incorrect hardware, or anything else that doesn't seem to jive? I've included a close up of the tom mount. Does it look right? Additionally, I could use the tiny 3/32 (?) hex screw that is missing from the BD tom mount. Anyone have that hex screw? Kindly PM me. I would have no clue if the local hardware shop would carry such an odd screw???
So, if you don't mind, lay it on me so I know the legacy of these drums. Too much info ALWAYS welcome. Walking
