Pearl Drum Identification Help

Loading...

I am helping a coworker sell a drumkit, but first I am trying to identify which drumkit it is. Below is a few photos of a drum from the kit. I was told that it is a 1978 Pearl. I showed him the 1978 Pearl catalog and he told me that his was all fiberglass. He said that he purchased it after seeing the same drumkit played on the Doc Severinsen Tonight Show.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi , By the photos your drums are from about 1972-76. Yes they could be F/G shells but i don't think so on these Pearl drums you would have a badge like you have but on the other side of the drum their would also be a badge that read's Fiberglass shell or wood-fiberglass shell..A phot of the inside on the shell will tell me what shell you have if the other badge's are missing..Also your shells could be just the plan lower end Pearl wood shell's...Mikey

Hey guys, thanks for replying.

I didn't take a picture of it when I had the drum in my possession, but on the other side of the drum, there is indeed a badge that says Fiberglass.

Does this change any of your ideas?

Then it's fiberglass. The time period mentioned is correct. Your friend is also correct that Ed Shaugnessy played a white Pearl kit on the Tonight show. What configuration is his kit? Billnvick will be here in no time I am sure.

Ed Shaugnessy played a Pearl "Double 9" according to the Pearl drumkit catalog from 1973.

Just as Mikey777 wrote, the kit is earlier than 1978. By then pearl had changed their Tom mounts from the Hex shaped mounts to round tubular mounts.

Guys, thanks for all of your help. Below is a photo of the drumset. The two drums on the right side of the picture were not part of the Pearl set.

My friend wants to sell this and I don't know much about drums. I asked him what model this set is, and he couldn't remember. Is there a specific model that I should try to sell this drumset as? And what do you think the price range for selling would be?

Again, thanks for assisting as I do not know much about drums.

Does anyone have an idea of what price range this drum set could be sold at? Thanks everyone!

What all's included--the two rack toms, floor tom, and kick? They're a standard 12-13-16-22? Snare with it, any hardware at all? Any missing parts? Tears or wrinkles in the wrap?

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16
