Pearl DLX

I owned a kit of these once. Looking for another. Birch/mahogany from the 80's. Here's a shot of a kit being polished. These drums (Phil Collins etc) are just fantastic. I'm on the hunt . . .

Hey Trout, I have a BLX kit from about 1983. I bought in 1992 and it worked pretty hard with me for about 10 years. I gave it a strip down and clean up about 18 months ago and then it sat in my drum room until a few months ago when I started using the bass drum in the studio. I think I may be too sentimentally attached to it to let it go though. And it's not a DLX anyway. What's the difference BTW?

Thanks for posting. They look nice Andrew. The BLX are all birch, I believe. The DLX have some mahogany plies. I'd consider both as a gigging kit but I really want the smaller tom sizes if I can in 12/13/16/22.

Yes, the deep toms aren't for everyone, including me actually.

From Fayray

Yes, the deep toms aren't for everyone, including me actually.

Local drumsmith Steele Turkington seems to spend all his time these days cutting down bass drums and toms. He's really good at it. Crazy though. I will go to 16" deep on a 22" but these 18" or 20" virgin kicks - I don't even like how they look, let alone the concept of hanging toms off stands at the gig.

Those deep bass drums wouldn't fit on the backseat of my car. I'd have to buy a wagon or van. Plus I think they're ugly.

I used my Pearl Crystal Beat at a gig for the first time last night and 2 other drummers used it as well (one of them pictured). It got a unanimous thumbs up for sound and looks. All for the price of one decent cymbal.

Hey Trout, there is a set now on gumtree. There in mitchelton and that's up in your home state, isn't it? The guy wants 1,100 with hardware, snare and some cheap cymbals.
