Pearl Aqua Sparkle Set: What Do You Think?

Loading...

Here's an almost identical kit, except for color, that I had some years back. Whitehall labeled Pearl kit. Made a few changes in hardware, but no extra holes were required! The toms and snare used the same mufflers as the kit in question, meaning that my kit was also from 1967-68. I sold it to "Bermuda" for $300. He said it was one of the cleanest MIJ kits he had seen!

I do have a good understanding about MIJ sets and what they sell for. I just wanted some thoughts from you guys.

I called the seller, explained what I was willing to pay ($400) and his response was, "I'm sure I can get $699 for them, but let me take your number in case I want to get back to you.' I expected that. In case he can't get $699, he wants to get back in touch. The shop owner is a NYC street guy. I could tell by the way he conducted himself. I know that type well. I simply told him that I have been buying and selling and playing drums for decades and that set in that condition had a street value of no more than $400. BTW, the snare is included.

So, if he calls me back, fine. If not, no big loss. It's a nice looking MIJ set, but I can continue happily living my life if someone else buys them.

That is very helpful Mark. A lot of incorrect parts. At most only one original hoop, rods are mixed on all drums. I'm with the $200-250 range. Color is cool though.

(As noted before, the snare is very prominent but said not to be included)

Oops! I missed the report that the snare was in. Strange advertisement. I'd add $50 if the snare is included, so tops of $300. Interesting that idrum4fun sold one for that price.

Maybe that set was priced for the insane "Japanese collector" market.

Wrote and asked the seller about the contradiction between title and text of listing. His response and the snare was supposed to be included in the sale.

[COLOR="Red"]No deception intended. This was originally intended to be offered as with and without the snare in a "bundled" listing (set + snare). The shop owner changed his mind and I changed "3" to "4" but failed to remove the words "no snare". Please forgive and I appreciate your question because I can't fix what I don't know is "broken".

Am I missing something? Where in the ad does it say that the snare is not included?

Looks like the ad has finally been revised! The original post did say the snare was not included, even though it really was!

One of my first thoughts is that there is an ad for a '70's Slingerland New Rock outfit for the same price at the bottom of the page for comparison. I'd rather have the Slingerlands. You'd get an extra tom tom.

Seriously, way overpriced, no matter what they have done to them. Maybe this is one of those ads that creeps run to "prove" to clueless shoppers that a similar cheap instrument is worth what they are asking for it.
