Pearl 60s vintage drum set, is this kit any good?

Loading...

Hi everybody!

I've been playing drums for nearly two years and decided it was time to take the big step and buy my first kit.

While looking for a kit online, I came across this ad:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pearl-60s-vintage-drum-kit-/120741249192?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D943785432986108966#ht_500wt_930

I really like the look of it but I am more interested to know about the sound and the general quality of this kit.

Do you think this kit would be suitable for playing rock music but also for practice and gigging in small venues such as pubs? How powerful is the sound and how would you describe it? Do you know if this kit would marry well played with a Chad Smith snare drum? In fact, anything you could tell me about this kit would help me in deciding if this is the right kit for me!

Oh, and what do you think this kit is worth? I am on a serious budget so I can't afford to spend too much, including in parts or repairs!

Thanks to all in advance!!

Welcome! and greetings!

First off, the kit is not 100% original. The hoops should be black wood w/inlay or chrome w/inlay. Some of these would also be black metal w/inlay, but not so sure the "script badge era" would have a black metal hoop. The claws are also not original, they are Slingerland type replacements, likely from a Star kit, unless there was just a huge difference in American vs European versions of these kits. As for the quality of the drums, they are likely intermediate at best. Without good, clean shots of the interior of the shells, it is hard to tell. Can you get the seller to get you a pic of each shell minus the head? Some may have an interior veneer of maple, but mostly they will be Asian mahogany.
