Patching Wrap

Loading...

Hi all! I have a late 80's early 90's vintage Ludwig set with Black Oyster Pearl wrap. Somewhere along the way in the last 10 years or so since I bought it, a split developed in the bass drum wrap. It's kind of a 'lazy s' that starts above the badge (right on the top of the drum where I can see it) and stops below it.

Would you try to match a piece of similar BOP wrap and patch it? Leave it and not look at it? Color the wood with black magic marker and stop worrying about it?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Looks like it's actually gotten a bit worse sitting in my bedroom closet this Summer. You can see the split best coming from the tom mount to the top of the badge.

Yikes, that's a tough one. I'm going to wait and see some other responses.

Idea:

There is a post where a guy got out a wrinkle by putting tape on either side and heating and pulling, I suppose you could do the same in reverse, heating and pulling the split back togther then putting adhesive on.

I remember that post as well.........

Also,O-Lugs also mentioned a method involving using a rope tied around the shell to coax the split back together, but I don't know any of the details of the process.

Perhaps he could help?

Oh boy, leave it to me to be 'unique'! I guess that's why we didn't take up the guitar back in the day, huh?

I'll keep an eye for more replies. Thanks for the leads, guys. I'll try to find the thread that you mentioned and see if I can use parts and pieces from both.
