Parallel Snare Value...?

Loading...

Hey guys;

Once again I could use some advice over here. Always appreciate the input from my fellow forum members.

Here's the deal; I picked up a nice old (80s) CB700 kit a little while back for a good price, and after giving it a total ground-up detailing, it ended up being a nice kit. I listed it locally , (Ottawa, Ont.) a couple of times, but got a lack-lustre response. I've bought and sold a number of kits in the last year, and I felt that this was better quality than a lot of the starter kits I'd seen, as well as being fairly unique, and I'd tried listing it as such, and pricing it accordingly. I'm at a point now, where I hesitate to bring the price down from where it's at, mainly due to the accompanying snare drum. It's a chrome, parallel snare, it excellent shape. When I took it apart, I had the feeling that it was something a little special, and tried to do some research on it. The thing weighs quite a bit, which made me think that it might even be COB, though the elaborate snare mechanism might have something to do with the weight as well.

Before I re-list this kit, I thought I'd try and get some feedback from my esteemed forum compatriots as to what they feel the value of the snare drum might be, (if not the full kit) and if it's worth hanging onto, or listing on ebay, or even if there is some interest within the forum itself. I could easily re-list the kit at a cheaper price, and swap out the snare, (just picked up a decent Dixon that should do the job) if the general opinion is that this snare is, indeed of any real value. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thanks jonnistix. I always appreciate your insight. The Dixon it is then. I'll also swap out a few vinyl lug inserts from the toms before I let the kit go. Gonna have to build myself a snare shelf shortly.

Thanks Musicaldeath. Yeah, I found it a bit finicky to set up once I'd polished it, (not being familiar with the parallel mechanism) but finally got it sounding good after a bit of tweaking. Imagine it's not as easy, (or economical) to get replacement snare wires either...
