Paiste Stambul Last viewed: 1 week ago

Hi, saw a paiste Stambul at a local music shop. Anybody know anything about these? Read that there are Stambul, and Stambul 65. The Stambul 65 came out in 65 to 67, then changed the name to giant beat, the ones that have no 65 are pre 1965. Is this correct? Are these high quality cymbals? Couldnt get a stick in to play to much on it, as it was surrounded by other cymbals and I wasnt to interested at the time. It was 22 inch and appeared to be med. in weight. What would be a fair price on this? Thanks

If only there were similar sites for other manufacturers. The wiki style makes it so easy to find things (and point others to the information).

I've had lots of NS 12 cymbals in my hands and even within a given manufacturers products and within the same label, they are highly variable. Lousy ones, usually have a lot of dents and edge ripples , whereas the good ones( there are some surprisingly good ones) ,usually are clean and cosmetically perfect. NS 12 has only 12% nickel and it is pretty soft but the metal can be made with higher nickel content; 20% at least. I would think , that was readily evident to the makers( Premier and Ajax , at least) because the cymbals improved over time. I have two 18" Ajax cymbals and they are like darkness and daylight. Any Paiste Stambuls or Stanoples or Supers, I have played are pretty grim but Ludwig Standards have been good. I would check it over pretty closely.
