Cymbals have gone in so many directions value wise.

I think the weight is playing the biggest factor so depending

on how heavy they are will determine how many people will have interest.

There is a 15" crash on Ebay with a BIN for $99. I'm not sure if it is the

exact cymbal age as yours.

I like to search completed items on Ebay for similar cymbals to get a ball park figure, but there are not many of these being sold at the moment

yeah, i agree on the weight determining the value.

basically, i've seen Formula 602s (similar and the cymbals made directly after Stambul 65s) sell for as much as USD360. i've seen them also sell for as little as USD100....guess it depends on the buyer and timing and luck...

Stambuls were top of the line cymbals for Paiste (in the 50's) prior to the Formula 602 series being introduced but they are not B20 Bell Bronze like 602's. They will not command the same $'s as 602's even though there are not as many of them around.

The first stambul cymbals were released around 1956 and were made of nickel silver.

In 1965 they were re-released in the B8 alloy as the Stambul '65 along with the Giant Beat series. These were both the forerunners to the 2002 line.

I have a 20" Stambul ride that my dad purchased along with a set of 15" 602 high hats in 1969. It still looks fantastic and has a beautiful sweet sound. Not tinny or clanky. I just love it.

According to Paiste the first Stambuls were released in 1932 not 1956.

More recent to that, the Stambuls came back out in 1947 after Paiste got back on its feet after WWII and were made of NS12 - somewhere in or around 1966 the series went to the B8 alloy.

In 1965 the Stambul '65 series was released and Giant Beat came out in 1967.

Stambul '65 and Stambul (even the later B8 cymbals) are two distinct series and always were. The '65 did not replace the Stambul. The two should not be lumped together because of the similar names.

Stambul '65 were better and more expensive than the B8 Stambuls and came in fewer sizes and weights.

Stambul '65 was discontinued in the early 70s - made obsolete by the 2002. The Stambuls lasted until the end of 1977 when they were replaced by the 505 series.

So the Paiste lineup in circa 1970 before the release of 2002 was as follows by price/quality

Once the 2002 was introduced Paiste phased out the Stambul '65 and Giant Beat while more the midline Stambul survived until replaced by 505 while the Dixie, also now a B8 cymbal, was replaced by the 404.
