Over on another site these caught my eye,..we`re try`n to find out when, where, and what about it.

The Sonor script logo would sale it in the 50`s !!

It looks like a Nickle or Silver alloy !!

I have no clue where it was made and guessing Germany !!

It appears to have signs of being spun cast !!

How`d I do ?

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Evidently, Paiste "Stambuls" were introduced in 1956 as Nickel Silver cymbals, but upgraded in 1965 to B8.

Yes that's correct. That could be an interesting cymbal. Stambul were produced from 1932 to 1965 from NS12 nickel-bronze and as the Stambul 65 made of CuSn8 bronze until about 1967. Made the same as all pro Paistes e.g. hammered with machine assistance/finished by hand. I don't care for the sound of the nickel crashes; rides can be interesting; a china could be cool.

A while back I was assured by drumaholic that Stambul has nothing to do with K Zildjian&Co, with that fact in mind I set out to find who this Stambul in the 30`to50`s Sonor cats. is.

Take a look at this page, Do you think this is what Sonor is advertizeing next to K&Co ?? Are Paiste cymbals Turkish ??

The Stambul in the catalog is referring to the location of K Zildjian at the time. It is not referencing the Paiste cymbal line.

The cymbal pictured is from the 50s and is Paiste Stambul China sold through Sonor.

Thank you for the info, I really wanted that thing for it's "coolnesss" alone.

Is Stambul the way they say Istanbul in German ?

Great find and an interesting history!

What does it sound like? A heavy ‘clang’?

It is also not the only use of Stambul. Here is another use of the name Stambul on what claims to be a Made in Turkey cymbal. Diameter 11" and 300g.
