Paiste 1970's cymbal valuation...

From maddcoww

Any ideas on the value of these Paiste 2002's that I've had forever...20" Ride 42628914" HH's 626879/62688018" Crash 629858.From the earlier posts, I'm guessing these are from '74 for the ride, and '76 for the others. They came with a '77 Rogers kit I bought many moons ago.The crash has a couple small cracks (1/4-1/2") eminating from the center hole. I'm sure that devalues it, but I don't know how much. (Despite the flaws, I love the way this cymbal plays.)Thanks in advance...

Your dates are right.

With medium to strong logos on the bay as follows:

Hats, consecutive SN's so matched set - up to $200

Ride up to $175

Crash probably not more than $50 with the cracks

Prices are definitely down right now so these might be a bit optimistic.

My opinion only.

Prices are kind of low, but if the hi-hats are Sound Edge 150-175, Ride 125-150, Crash with cracks 75-100. Prices reflect condition. The stronger the painted labels, the higher the price. I have an 18" crash that has a quarter sized piece missing out of the outside, and it still sounds good.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Have just listed a pair of 1974 sound edge hi-hats on ebay if anybody's interested. Great cymbals, will be sad to see these go but as I don't use them anymore I might as well sell them to someone who will. Take a look!

Hello,Just bought these Paiste cymbals with a Slingerland set. I am curious as to what they're worth seperately. I posted in the 'vintage drums' section asking what the value is on the Slingerland shells. I spent $2,000.00 for the entire set (which included a DW5000 single bass pedal and hi-hat stand, an assortment of boom cymbal stands, hardware clamps and arms, trap cases, shell cases, and cymbal bag).I'm trying to figure a price point for these items individually.Description:Early 1970's(?) 14" Sound Edge Hi-Hats, 16" 2002 Thin Crash, 18" 2002 Thin Crash, and 20" 2002 Heavy Ride. All in very good condition with no cracks. They don't seem 35 years old, so maybe they are 80's cymbals? Sound is bright and articulate. Thank you for your thoughts,Chris

Here's an 18" black label that went for over $400.. They're much more valuable than the quote given.

BTW the 2002 Black labels are highly collectible right now--even given the economic climate.

Those 18" mediums are a bit hard to come by, but Dayum! That is really high!

I admit the price that one went for was crazy but I'm just illustrating the ranges and would like to point out that potential buyers of a cymbal are (usually) going to have a more conservative estimate.
