Painting white Ludwig interiors

Yea, I know collectors hate it but I'm thinking about attempting to do it with "dirty" paint so they won't look brand new. Also, would using wood filler to fill in reinforcement ring gaps be a good idea?

Thanks

Gluing the gaps would probably be better.

There's Lots of info on that here.... good pics too.

You could run a search on it... also there is a good thread from Jcymbal on the topic. Search his threads, they're great. :)

Don't worry about trying to get an old look with new paint, if it's repainted, it's repainted, so might as well make it nice and white like it use to be some time ago.

The paint I would recommend using Benjamin Moore Regal Semi - Gloss Aqua Glo, Super White 333 02.

Very commonly used by professionals for the job, if there are date stamps, they will bleed through the paint eventually so it's the paint of choice.

For what it is worth from a total noob to restoration, I used this same paint on the interior of a battered old 16" ludwig tom a few weeks ago, and it came out great. After reading this, I'm crossing my fingers that the date stamps will bleed through.

I know this is a old thread, but I need to repaint the interiors of a couple of drums. The BM Dealer here does not carry that. Is it that critical to use that exact paint? Cant I just take a drum shell to the paint store and have them scan it and match it with semi-gloss acrylic enamel?

Poppy, they should have that paint, but it has a different name now. Did you ask the people there? If I remember, I'll look at my can and see.
