Hi there, I used wet sanding paper when I rubbed the paint of my 1963 WMP Ludwig. The result is excellent and the paper I used to get the paint of was P400 and then P1200 to get a really smooth surface on the wrap. Try on a little spot under a lug or something to get the hang of it and I suggest you have a piece of cloth, a towel or something to wipe with when paint starts dripping of the drum. To get the shiny glossy finish back I used Autosol All Purpose Metal Polish with a really good result.

I have a set of old 60's luddies that had been painted in the seventies. Pink on the outside, red on the inside, along with urethane over the paint.

I knew I was going to re-wrap them, but just wondered whether I could strip the paint and how the old wrap would look. So I put the Poly Super Strippa to the exterior paint. The wrap finish was harmed by the stripper, the streaky and kind of punky in spots. But I was planning on taking the wrap off, so, my experience suggests that you will damage the underlying wrap with something as aggressive as a paint stripper.
