Packing and Shipping Nightmares

I bought a 1930s 14x10 Slingerland tenor snare from Etsy. It arrived in a duct taped banana box. You know, the kind with all the ventilation holes? One hoop was smashed, and there was no padding, except for some banana slime. Got refunded 50% of the cost, which was decent of them.

I got a drum once that was packed in about ten thousand plastic bags. What a mess, and it was a member from vdf.

Thank you!

I recently received this pictured snare drum from an eBay seller. BTW, this is the "before" picture! While the seller packed the drum well, it was in so much bubble wrap and tape that trying to figure out where to cut all this tape to release the bubble wrap was time consuming and frustrating! At least it's a cool drum!

I bought a red sparkle Downbeat shell pack years ago. When the drums arrived, I found a slice hacked into the batter side rim. It literally was like someone hit it with an axe or something. When I contacted the seller about it, she told me that the drums had been from a school for disturbed children. I presume they were used as some kind of therapy tool. I heard tell that school was shut down after a series of gruesome murd....

...Well the first part is true, anyway.

This 20s Leedy utility drum was shipped exactly as seen in the pic that I took. Could not believe they included no padding, paper or anything, for such a large box. Luckily was a metal drum but still, it was bouncing around with the stand the whole way across from Maryland to Idaho.

Showed up fine and was able to use the original Calfskin head for about 4 months before I got to aggressive and riped it.

A guitarist friend purchased a Premier snare to match the drum set he had in his practice space so I wouldn't have to bring as many additions each time we jammed: (I used to bring snare, pedal, crashes) So he bought some things. When he purchased a steel Premier snare it came in a nice square cardboard box. When he opened the box the snare was encased in a pair of 'larger' women's panties... (he claims silky and clean). They are stapled to the practice room wall-..... but I question the accuracy of his story..... we will never really know for sure..... but they are still there....Eye Ball

I bought a 20" Keystone WMP Ludwig bass drum from ebay. The seller put it in a box that was OK and stuffed some news paper in it for protection. The problem was that he put it in the box upside down with the rail at the bottom. The rail mount wasn't tightened on the rail so the nut for the L arm poked a hole right through the shell. I was able to repair it and it turned out really nice other than a small amount of missing wrap, but I was also to put a lot more time and effort into it than someone could have economically repaired it had I been paying them. The last picture is the repair.
