Original Paiste Giant Beat sizes available 60's-70's?

Loading...

Hi,

If any of you have seen the Led Zeppelin Danish TV special Aka Danmarks Radio in black in white, John Bonham looks like he is using a 16 inch crash by his hi hats which look like 14 inch hats rather than 15inch hats. And the Ride cymbal looks to be a 21 inch or a 22 inch rather than a 24? What were the sizes available back then that the reissues do not have now? Thanks! Phil Cormier Leominster, Ma 01453

They ONLY made: 14" 15" 18" 20" 24&26",

As Kenney Jones was given&used a 26 GB with Small Faces which he's still got,

As did Doug "Cosmo" Clifford CCR.Bonham's cymbals on that Danmarks tv special were just regular production GB'S : 15" hats 18&20" crash/rides&24" ride.

Sorry but that is incorrect, Aussie. Kenney's 26" Paiste was a 602 (most likely an Arbiter Custom 602) not a Giant Beat.

They did not make a 26" original Giant Beat.

14" and 15" Hats

18", 20" and 24" were the only sizes

The 14" Hats came out later, not as part of the original release in 1967. They are not shown on the July, 1970 Paiste price sheet I have.

Hi,

What year did Paiste release the 14 inch hi hats in the original line? My guess is 1970 maybe 71? All they had originally was the size 15 inch hi hats? Any info would be great. Thanks! Phil Cormier Leominster, Ma 01453

Also, I will contest that Bonham is not even using Giant Beats on this danmarks black and white footage. Sounds and Looks like

Paiste 602;

14" Medium regular hats

16" Medium thin or thin crash

22" Medium ride

20" Medium crash

this is what I would buy if someone wanted that sound, Bonham wasn't using Giant Beats yet... for example, listen to this cymbal roll. Does that really sound like a 24" giant beat? the paiste website offers sound clips of cymbals and it sounds almost exactly like the 22" 602 medium ride.

Hi,

Wow! I would have never thought that he was possibly using 602's! So maybe on the first album they are 602's and not Giant Beats? Thanks for the info! Phil Cormier Leominster, Ma 01453
