If I bought a ludwig maple classic tom that was stained puple from the factory what would be the chances of sanding this drum down to a natural maple drum i guess i need to know what you guys think is how deep the stain would go.. thanks Mike

To be honest Mike, slim to none. Stain will be all the way through the top ply as it is so thin.

Mike, I Have Been At The Ludwig Factory Very Many Times It Is Only 70 Miles From My House, And Have Watched Them Stain Many A Drums, The Stain The Factory Uses Is Water Based, You Could Try A Liquid Paint Stripper On The Stain Finish, And It Would Probably Remove Alot Of The Stain, But I Have To Agree With Lugwig-dude The Plies Are So Thin You Will Probably Have To Sand All The Way Through The Outer Ply, Good Luck, Mark

Thanks guys , i was pretty much thinking on the same lines oh well Ok so i guess i will have to buy a wrapped drum and strip it which i hate to do, but i need a 10x14 with small classic lugs in natural and to buy one at the factory will cost me at least 400.00 i am thinking so i am ahead if i can buy a used drum and strip it I think.. LOL any one have any ideas?
