One Drummer's Pies from the 20s / 30s

Loading...

I recently bought three cymbals on the Bay that merit sharing for both their collector and academic value.

Two of the cymbals are pre 1929 while the last (the Zilco) likely dates to the mid 30s. Also included was a cymbal holding device I've never seen before but also probably dates to the time of the early cymbals.

Details:

Zilco 11 inch splash (10 15/16 in) that weighs a flyweight 252g

K Zildjian 12 inch (12 1/8 in) that weighs 434g

Unmarked 14 inch brass marching band cymbal that weighs 1200g

No cracks, dents, dings etc. and they lay pretty flat. Because of their lack of damage, I'm thinking they belonged to someone who played the local elks club or the like, from time to time but not a pro.

I bought them just for the K that I hoped would weigh a bit more so I could pair it with an early 12 inch A Zildjian. Not so sure now but I'll hit them in practice this Saturday and see what's what.

And the holder. It sports the classic convex / concave surfaces that you'd expect to hold the cymbals snug. Large black surface is a now rather hard and slightly cracked rubber ring. The smooth shaft is just the right size to fit 1920s cymbals at 3/8 inch.

Anyone ever seen another one? I don't see a maker mark anywhere though I haven't taken the rubber ring off for fear of breaking it.
