OMG Say it isn't so . . . Neal Peart has passed

Loading...

My wife just came into my office to let me know that Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist for Rush, died Tuesday, January 7th, in Santa Monica at age 67. The cause was brain cancer, which he had been quietly battling for three years. Such a loss for the drumming world

I never was a big Rush fan, but I did like Neil Peart, especially when he was paying his tribute to Buddy Rich. I know he had lost his daughter and wife within a year of each other and that he had retired, but I had no idea he was that ill.

Prayers to his family.

Neil was a private man and it's no wonder he kept his illness secret. I'm not a Rush fan by any means, but he was a great drummer and this is a terrible loss for fans of Rush.

My daughter just texted me with the news. She sings in my band and is from St. Catharines, Ontario. My bassist is best friends with the gentleman who was Neil's best man. I play with sticks given to my by Mr. Peart. I am devastated! I have followed this Canadian icon for as long as he has been playing. What a great talent! I'm still in shock. What a terrible loss!

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

Just read the sad news online. What a loss to the world of rock drumming. I've always told my students to listen to Buddy Rich for jazz, and Neil Peart for rock. He was an incredibly intricate, complex, and intelligent drummer who will be forever imitated but never duplicated.

Wow, kind of shocked. I had no idea he was even sick. I can't say I was a huge fan, but I'm not generally a fan of the monster kit players, although his music kind of required it I guess. But my opinion aside, he was an important drummer in rock history. Sad, he was young and he had a lot more to give.

Prayers offered for his soul...:(

In that genre, I have to say that he's the best, and maintained that throughout his life. That's impressive. He was a good man and a great talent.
