Olympic Kit help

Hey guys this kit has come up on ebay but I have no idea about Olympic kits. I've heard that some are just as good as Premier kits (w/o diecast hoops) and some are only good for firewood. does anyone know how old this kit could be and if its any good or not? I would love a kit in these sizes

Looks like a nice kit. all the rims are there. 150-200 US? value is all about opinion. and how bad you want it. and if anybody else wants it too

I think, but may be wrong that at some point Olympic became to Premier what Club Dates were to Ludwig. The Olympic kit I have has mahogany shells with beech re-rings which is what the top of the line Premier kits had. They have cheaper hardware and less of it. 6-8 lug bass drums and, in the case of my kit, a 5 lug 12" but otherwise nice drums.

I'll be interested to hear if this is correct or not. I do believe you will find these to be superior to your typical MIJ kit of the same era.

I think tnsquint is right. The modern Olympics are MIC I think but the early stuff, like the one in question, is the same Prem shells with different hardware. So they will be fantastic really.

That's one of the good,UK made kit..like their version of ClubDate..as someone said...

Later ones (Super Olympics) had 8 lugs on BD....

I see a lot of the UK Ebay ads only show 1 pic...whats up with dat?

I'm pretty sure they can put up 12,just like US ebay......

the bass drum is 20" but has 6 lugs, is this less than ideal or would it be alright, seeing as its smaller than usual?

Fayray is right, the old Olympic stuff is the same thing as Premier! So its a nice thing, though!!!Cool1

I don't know what the deal was with six lug kicks. It seems like the kits with Olympic badges would have had six lugs on a 20". The kits with a Premier badge with the word Olympic would have eight lugs. Again, I am not an expert but it seems like the latter was Premier's USA offerings. My Olympic kit has the Premier badge and eight lugs. Six lugs is not ideal for a kick, but you are generally tuning really low on a kick anyway so I am sure it is workable plus, the larger the drum, the more forgiving the tuning. I don't think I would let that hold me up if you can get a good deal on that kit.
