Were these drums, esp the first year or 2 a regular mahogany or the usual luuan type?..Going to see a mint cond kit and was curious what to expect.

All Maxwins should be Luann. They were all made at Pearl's Taiwan factory.

I have never seen old Pearl that uses real mahogany, it's always lauan. The modern sets they do in mahogany are not lauan.

All the early Maxwin drums I have ever seen were standard luan ,first with hex-rod then 7/8 tube mounts. Maxwin-Royce-CB 700-VeriSonic all the same. I will say this,off topic. I bought a VeriSonic bass pedal from Boston Music that was an EXACT copy of a Gretsch Floating Action.I mean EXACT.
