Old Zilco Splashes-Deal or No Deal??

Hello again friends,

I recently purchased two Zilco splashes from a local drum shop. 11" and 13" were the sizes, and I got them for $60 total. I thought that was a fair price. These are the older Zilco's from the 60's, NOT the AZCO Canada ones.

I would like to get a 9" to "collect the whole set" and I found one on ebay. The problem is, the seller wants $149 for it!

I contacted the seller and asked if he would be willing to be flexible on the price.

My question to all of you is twofold:

1. What is a "fair and reasonable" price for an old 9" Zilco splash in good condition? I think we can all agree that $149 is not fair and reasonable!

2. Did I get a good deal on my 11" and 13" for $60 total?

I am taking into account the 11" and 13" price I paid, although the 9" is the smallest of the pack and therefore should, in theory, be the cheapest. And there is also a 13" on ebay right now with 1 day to go with 1 bid at $35.

I have a number in my head, but want to hear from the peanut gallery on this one first.

$29-$39 is more in line......NOT $149...

You did good at $60 for the pair.........

Some of them sound good,some not so good....

Don't bend and meet the guy somewhere between 30 and "149". It is only a matter of time before this desired cymbal shows up on the bay. That's my .02

Thanks for the comments. The cymbal is acutally on the bay now (that's how I found it).

It doesn't mean they are worth $149 a piece!

This guy always has many cymbal listings, like old Kingstons, with pricing that is sky high. I wonder if he ever sells any!

That said, I must give him kudos for taking some beautiful shots! As far as gorgeous vintage cymbals goes, that Zilco is a piece of art!

That may be the only Zilco 9 inch he has seen in 5 years, but that doesn't mean anyone else on our forums does not have any, especially ones that they would be more than willing to sell for a reasonable price.

Buying this from this guy at 149 would only be validating his practices and sending the wrong message. Rarity DOES factor in, but it still does not justify THAT much markup.

I agree with your position entirely. The fair market value of his cymbal will be established when he has an auction close with a winning bid and the bidder follows thru and buys the cymbal. If there have only been 2 around in the last 5 years then his asking price is a total guesstimate and your guesstimate is just as legit.

Also,he polished every cymbal like brand new..knocking 70-80 years of patina off.........:mad:

Frankly, I think you were being kind of a d!ck. You made an offer, the guy didn't accept it. Why did you keep busting his chops?

So he values his stuff higher than you think it is worth. Move on...

I didn't reply back to him. I posted my comments in this forum for our purposes only.

And frankly, I think I'm being reasonable and not a dick. I guess everyone else who agrees with me is a dick too?

Just discussing whether or not this was a fair price with other forum members. No more, no less.
