Old Yamaha kit...

That's a nice looking kit!

I notice yours has metal hoops (the red one) but mine are wood. Is there any difference in the drums, or was this just a change that happened in production at some point? Just curious...

EDIT> I see your kick is a 22; mine is a 20. Maybe that is the difference.

Yamaha had different lines. All the 20's with metal hoops I have seen are 6 luggers, wood hoop 8 luggers. The 22's both metal and wood Ive seen are 8 luggers... and different rail mounts for the wood and metal as well. (wood hoops -mounting screws on top of rail. metal hoops- mounting screws on bottom)

Lots of different catalog pages floating around the internet.. Yamaha made many changes in the line series (YD, D, C etc), and hardware, lugs etc... confusing. Do some searches in the threads here and you will find many of the pages that are available. Good luck with your project.

Thank you!

And it looks like you may have some hardware bits, or know where I could find them (or suitable substitutes).

For example, I'd like to have the bass mounted cymbal L-arm and top (I assume it is a copy of the Ludwig style?) I'd be happy with a generic copy as long as I don't have to modify the drum to use it.

I am thinking I might take the rail off, since I most likely won't use it, but I will not be selling it off!

I have been searching and learning too!

I'll post some detail pictures when I tear these down for refurbishing.

Post what you need in the wanted threads here.... people will find you. Use generic parts till you can find originals. I mount my rack toms on a stand for gigging... but I leave the rails on so there are no holes showing. Enjoy.

Thanks!

I managed to get them out of the trunk and into the garage today... Big step!

I had to get packing materials because one of my RC bass drums is going off to Germany!

A little update:

I ordered a pair of Pearl superhoops for the 12 Tom and got 12 new tension screws. I will save the original parts and will swap when/if I find good originals.

I also got new ambassador heads for the toms but need a good suggestion for a kick batter head. I also need 8 claws and t rods plus a hoop to get the bass going. I may get generic (Gibraltar) hoops until another surfaces.

Finally I want to use a rims mount for the 12. Does anyone have a used chrome 6 lug 12 they could part with? I will put new Yamaha mount on it and remove the rail from the bass.

I also found a repro cymbal mount that looks great for the time being.

Pics eventually.... Maybe I'll hold off until it's done for the big unveiling!

If anyone has anything, please let me know. I'll post in wanted eventually but for now just post here or pm me...

Thanks!
