Old Yamaha kit finally finished

This was really just a strip and clean restoration. It was in remarkable condition for 40+ years old and now it's as close to a new 40yo kit as you could get IMO. It has non standard maple BD hoops (still have the original metal ones) but apart from that it's pretty much original. I even have the original factory Yamaha heads.

I haven't played them in anger yet but so far they sound very nice.

Star and Hayman kits next for the treatment.

I'm generally not a fan of older Japanese drums, but I've gotta make an exception for Yamaha. Nice drums. Pretty wrap, too.

thanks for the kind comments. It's really more a credit to the condition of the kit before i even started pulling apart. It was in fine, unmolested condition. Never been taken apart either. It's pretty well made too. The shell quality is a big step up from my other MIJ kits.

They will get a good run out over the coming weeks - lots of gigs on at the moment.

If anyone is restoring one of these kits and needs any parts I may be able to help. This kit came with all the parts off another similar kit. There is already one forum member interested in the BD tom mount (just needs a tom now). I also have a clean 13" tom (see pic) in orange from the same vintage if someone needs one to complete a set. I'm not actively trying to sell this stuff it's just there should someone have a genuine need.

The kit looks great! So sweet when a bit of tlc makes a kit look this good! Is the overall build quality a bit better than a standard mij kit?
