Old Tympani

Loading...

I went crazy and bought these off craigslist. Can anyone identify the brand and age? Also, there is one missing T-rod. No stands. No heads. Need lots of dent repair,(open to suggestions on that.) and major cleaning and polishing. Might be a fun project and for sure be fun to play. Pure thunder! If by some miracle, someone has a T-rod, please let me know. I got 2 drums. one 28" and one 25".(shown).

That thing is crazy, incredible, stupendous, and a whole lot more I shouldn't say in public!!! I've lived in smaller houses!!! That mutha looks dangerous!! I'm really interested in seeing the restoration process on this one. Please post some more pics when you can. I'm enthralled. You have two of them?? Is the 28" in the same shape?? Wow

All I can figure is to do an image seacrh on google and pop up some images of Slingy, Luddy, and other brand tymps. See if the hardware matches any of 'em.

Dang, those things just scare me......;)

They are awe inspiring. I still think I'm crazy. The 28" is a little rougher than the 25". I have a guy who might buy that one. There are some dents in the bottom of both drums and I was hoping someone could advise me on straightening them out. Ludwig tympani heads look like they might work and are cheaper than Remo or Evans. (renissance heads cost more than the drums did!) Would heating the dents up help when I hammer? This is new territory for me. Also, there is a missing T-rod on the 28".

I would try a paintless dent repair guy. Are you sure you want to seperate the drums? They are a pair. I was at a concert a few weeks ago and they had a orchestra playing. The tympani's sounded so good. I looked at some on ebay the next day and couldnt believe how expensive thet are! Lot of em are made of fiberglass these days to. Where are you going to keep them?
