old slingerland kit

I just was given a old slingerland kit.

Since the wrap was in bad shape, I removed it

carefully warming up the glue not to damage the wood.

But it looks like this kit has been rewrapped before

and there is damage to the wood.

Can somebody tell he how to go about from here?

Should I just sand down the wood and use filler where the strips of wood

are gone??

Hi. Are you planning on re-wrapping this kit or re-finishing it as a wood finish?
