old Slingerland BDP - Year Made?

Loading...

Can anyone identify the year, or even decade, that this particular pedal was made?

Thanks for taking a look.

In Rob Cook's book on Slingerland it seems to best match up with the Slingerland #940 Epic 1934-1971 Changed to #939 in 1947, Black until 1963, then red. So maybe it's a post 1963 Slingerland #939 Epic

But don't take my word for it.. I'm just comparing it to a small black and white picture I have in this book.

Hey guys - thanks for the info. Jim - the spring is there - but it does need to be replaced due to age. As for the wingnut -- what is supposed to be there - a hex nut?

One last thing - I forgot to mention that the heel of the footboard has "Pat Pend USA" impressed into it. Why would such a late example stuill have Pat Pend in the design? Does this alter your date estimate at all?

Marc,

Patrick sent me this link to a 1965 Slingerland Catalog in answer to a question I posted earlier about my Slingerland kit.

http://www.drumarchive.com/Slingerland/

On page 32 of the catalog is a good picture of this pedal in red.

I believe a little knurl knob should replace the wingnut. You can see it pretty well in the picture. There is also one on Ebay right now (Item number: 290060649916) that you can take a look at.

It is a very nice looking pedal.. curious that Slingerland maintained that "antique" looking pedal all the way to 1971. But again it is sweet looking pedal.

Jim - Thanks for the link. That is an awesome resource! Case closed. Next mystery is the old Ludwig floor tom that this pedal was clamped onto when I got it at a yard sale. The drum has been painted over in blue - hardware and all. Sheesh!
