Old school Slingerland shell...? Last viewed: 3 seconds ago

Following on the heels of this lively debate, and while watching the fire, I had a ring on the doorbell from the UPS dude. He dropped a box full of old MIJ and Krut cymbals from my recent battles on the internet hate site....The cymbals are all rather funky sounding, and a couple are actually quite nice.

Now on to the show...er, shell. This old shell was advertised as a MIJ blue sparkle 12x8. After I took it apart and started to try removing the head, I found it is a calf head, stuck tightly to a Slingerland shell...please let me know if I am mistaken.

Slingy it be! Interesting that it's a 68(?) and yet has that natural mahogany inner. Double check that date stamp and confirm for me, please. LOVE that wrap. Kevins has a Modern Jazz in that same wrap (he said with a covetous tone). That tom will sound amazing once you get it up and running.

Looks like 68 to me...I did not even see that! You and your eagle eyes...you want the head? I am afraid of it.

Man, now I'm gonna feel guilty if I take the wrap off...I need a 12, and this was to be the tom for a kit I am building, now I am thinking twice about disassembly...

Is the wrap torn in that first pic? ... or is that some sort of wood tone sticky paper...

It's actually an abrasion that goes to the shell. The wrap is rough, not completely dead though. It has lived a long time with the bottom head gone, as the wrap is pulled to the top from the tension of the lugs. Looks like an MIJ, 'til you get close to it, darn it!

The tom mount is not Slingy, but the shell is for sure. That wrap looks to be in pretty rough shape, I wouldn't feel too bad about stripping that one.
