Powertone can you tell me more about this drum please? Where did you get it? History? What are the knuckle mounts on it for?

Your guess is as good as mine (as to what this one of a kind drum is). I pulled it out of the Rogers warehouse in Covington when they left town back in '68-'69. I assume it is some sort of prototype. Very thin shell, tall boy hoops, tension rod receivers welded to the hoops, keys welded to the tension rods, the knuckles (welded to the hoops) would have been to receive a rod to mount the drum. I don't think the drum is upside down in the photo. It would be kind of like the early single tension snares where the thumbscrews faced down to as not to interfere with the sticking.

Could Rogers have been working on an early version of a pancake kit? Probably never know. Now you know the rest of the story.

It reminds me of some of the drums that have been found inside calliopes or organs...maybe that's what that mounting hardware is for.

Good idea, but I think this one is much newer than those drums. I still think a pancake kit was in the works or perhaps some sort of a marching tom setup was the intention. Whatever it was, it never went into production.

What is the possibility of it being for a second line "One man band" set up?
