I buy 4'x 8' sheets of glossy plastic for $20 each. i cut to size for each shell and then treat one side of the plastic any way i like. in this case, i sprinkled multi colored glitter ($5) and then applied a thin coat of flat black from a spray can to seal the glitter in place. Then, i applied 2 coats of flat black latex paint on top of it all. to wrap the drum, simply apply the painted side with 2 way tape directly on the shell. Remove the protective film from the plastic and re-mount the hardware.

Have you had an opportunity to use them in hot temperatures with direct sunlight or in cold weather?

I had some drums professionally refinished by two renowned outfits with original-type wrap. One set from each company had problems with lifting. One was black and the heat was intense - 100 or so. The other was an onyx and just in the back yard for a quick photo session and the bass wrap lifted. Bummer!

I'd be interested to know your experience thus far.

So far, all those drums are hanging in my cozy controlled temp studio but i can bring them outside... It is windy and 14F over here... Haha. The plastic i use is lexan. Highly durable and flexible made to withstand extreme shocks. 100 times more durable than regular plexi. We use it to protect the camera crew and equipment against the elements when we use explosives and gunfire on film sets.

Curious if your wrap was taped or used full contact glue applied to the shell?
