Old Man Rant: How hard is it to spell cymbal?

Loading...

WOW! Even in this day and age when phones and computers take most of the guesswork out of spelling, somehow people still can't spell CYMBAL! Just today I counted three posts on my local CL selling things that looked just like cymbals, but were being referred to as cymbols, symbals, simbals, symbols...etc.

It's a sad thing, but when I post cymbals for sale now I tag on all the common misspellings to the end of the description so that my ad will come up when they search.

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.

Funny Post Even Slingerland couldn't get it right! Please read the description for this kit in the '71 Catalog! http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/slingerland_drum_sets/1971-slingerland-drumsets10.jpg

I've seen a few sneer drums on eBay, too.

A two edged sword.

I did a search on Google for phibes and up popped an ad for somebody who had no idea what the drum was.

I made a low ball offer and had a Fibes snare drum in pretty good shape for a very nice price.

Don't forget those very rare "Lugwig" drums that you see every now and again.

If you're lucky, those Lugwigs will come with symbols, peddle and a thrown.

I also see drums from time to time that are listed as Evans, or Remo Ambassador drums.

This is what happened to public education.....they only thing they teach them today is how to pass a standardized test so the school can get its federal funding. We are turning out a bunch of morons today people......sad, really.

Less about being educated....and much more about brain-washing these days. Hurray for Common Core.

We're not supposed to get political on these threads, but this has been a an issue for a very long time.

My music related vignette is as follows:

6th grade report card day ,one of the students in my class gets ill.

I'm a patrol boy at the time ,so teacher asks me to walk him home.

He shows me his report card (basically all failing grades for most of the school year).

We move on to middle school ,and from there I don't see much of him around.

Cut to my sop****re year and I'm playing Pomp and Circumstance at SR commencement.

I see that student walking down the aisle graduating 2 years ahead of me.

A little thing called social promotion dictated that he graduate with his own age group regardless of academic performance.

There was a point in time where a high school diploma was worth something, but that has long since gone by the wayside.

And we're talking about the Leave it to Beaver era.

As for spell editors ,maybe they're broken.

Seems I can't use the term sop****re (sophom0re) without being censored.
