Old Gretsch...Broadkasters?

Loading...

I bought some old, badly beaten up Gretsch Broadkasters (my best guess) for $75 with hopes of restoring. However I think they are beyond restoration, at least by me. I'd like to clean them up and part them out on ebay...the rims, most lugs, some calfskins, etc seem to be in good shape.

My main question is, how can I safely remove the Gretsch badges? I found some info that was Ludwig specific, and I'm wondering if there's any similar Gretsch info....

Thanks!

DON'T DO IT!!! Put the drums back together and send me a pic! Sabshon@optonline.net. I'll either make you an offer or you can sell them as is on ebay. If the lugs and hoops are ok, what's the problem? How many pieces? What sizes?

Ok, ok! The reason I wanted to part these out on ebay is because I'm a starving vibes player, and need to pay ridiculously high NYC rent. Violin I do believe in instrument karma, and I've saved many instruments from the brink of death, but I also need to eat (I do also have a job, but still poor.) However, these drums seem so far gone that I thought they would do more good in the world as parts. Looking on ebay at old Gretsch round badges, I saw them selling for $75 a piece! I'm serious! However, an old gretsch shell with intact round badge seems to sell for around $40. So...my thinking was...part out, make more money. If the drums were even 50% of a complete kit I would keep them whole. The snare drum, for example, is missing 5 lugs, all tension rods, the strainer, and some screws. It also has some wood missing at the snare bed. The bottom, tacked on heads of the toms are gone. The paint is rough at best. There is no bass drum.

Edit: I am willing to sell the lot as is at a financial loss...keep in mind that I come from the world of vibraphones, in which an old instrument that's missing a few bars or parts would be very expensive to restore, so usually serves as a "parts" instrument, and is invaluable in restoring other good vibraphones to %100. If this isn't the case with drums, or if I should for some other reason keep the drums together, let me know! (I don't want to spend any time in drum hell)

Here's a list of everything, followed by pics:

-snare shell, 14" x 6.5"

-tom, 14" x 12"

-tom, 12" x 8"

-3 intact heads

-2 sets of snare rims

-4 metal "hoops"

-10" cymbal - "Stanople"

-10" cymbal - no name

-12" cymbal - "Victor"

-BD pedal - "Musical Instruments Parts Company, NYC"

See? Too much work for me, but it's very interesting to a handy guy.
