old Gretsch Snare

Loading...

help Please, I still have the snare from my first drum set purchased used in 1965. Bass, High-hat and Snare. latter bought a new set but kept these. My old man threw the bass away (still had real skin head) some years later, but the snare still lives. I would like to know what I have, black and white, 4 inch tall frame, 14 inch diameter. Rings rusted.

Would you take pictures of the shell Interior also the Snare strainer butt end?I have not seen this black marble wrap before on a gretsch? from the vent hole picture it appears it's a clear Interior and not a silver painted interior. the single flange rims are steel and are bad to pit and tarnish and in your case rust!

The snare may be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1961 I think.

This is a 1961 Gretsch Junior Pro Single Tension snare.

I don't know anything about your finish. The throw-off piece looks quite similar. If your drum has the butt end intact a photo would be helpful. I don't think there'd be a tag inside the drum unless it's a 62 or later - there may be.

The 58 Junior snare drum was different than this one.

thanks guys we have a good start. I will take it apart and get some more pictures to post. I have (after 37 years) decided to pick up a pair of sticks and actually purchased a set with cymbals worth much more than the drums. I will actually endeavor to sell this if I am able to figure out a price. thanks again

Darrell, it's probably a 60's model. kinda hard to tell from the pics whether it's early or mid 60's. but the wrap color is a rare puppy.
