I`ve watched National Lampoon`s Christmas vacation many, many times...However, last night when I watched it, I noticed an old bass drum in the "attic" scene...Starts at 0:45...

No way to tell. Looks to be virgin, but no way to confirm it is sitting on it's bottom. I would especially believe it has been turned because the port hole is rarely found in that position. External muffler - could be anything really.
Always fun to notice and guess when these are found in movies.
Did we ever figure out what drum Bobby was playing (Brady Bunch)?
I've noticed the bass drum before. In fact, when I think of this film the first thing that comes to mind is the bass drum in the attic. That's how bad I have it. :D
That's funny you've mentioned this because as a yearly tradition we watch Christmas Vacation and I mentioned the bass drum the night we watched it to a room where no one cared.
Pretty sure that's a "Wallyworld & Auge" .. They were built by the Griswold & Chase Drum CO. of Grand Canyon.. they were not there very long, but they would often hand ship product across the desert carefully wrapped in blankets & strapped to Auto luggage racks..

I also noticed that this year! I also had the whole room pause and go back to look at it. I got some strange looks... haha
It is definitely an old single tension drum, and that is definitely and external muffler. Looks like a 14x26 possibly?

I've always wondered about that drum myself. I still have a hard time watching the Masters Of The Universe movie. Not because of how utterly bad it is ( but it was part of my childhood ) but rather for when they destroy the music store and I see all the vintage drums get blown to holy heck. That always gets me.
